1 Introduction to Music Theory: scales
When we take two tones and a semitone: C-D-E-F and repeat the same from G: G-A-B-C we have constructed a scale of 7 tones out of the twelve available. It is the most familiar scale which we are used to singing do re mi fa sol la ti do, which is the major scale.

On the keyboard these scales can be played by the right hand by starting with the thumb (1) on C and playing upwards pushing the thumb under the third finger to continue on F and under the fourth finger to continue on C again. You replace your thumb in sequence 3-4-3.

With the left hand you start using the little finger (5). When you arrive at G with the thumb (1) you push your middle finger (3) over the thumb and continue on A. When you have arrived at C with the thumb again you push your index finger (4) over the thumb and continue on D again. Also here the sequence of replacing the fingers is 3-4-3.
